Karis Ahlberg: For a sustainable future

I’m running for the Lower Platte South Natural Resources District Board to bring a practical, accountable approach to decisions that directly affect our community.

Meet Karis Ahlberg

My focus is on protecting the reliability and quality of well water, ensuring that growth does not negatively impact existing residents, and reducing flood risk to land, homes, and infrastructure. I believe in using data to guide decisions, identifying potential issues early, and addressing them before they become costly problems.

I live in Subdistrict 1 and rely on its natural resources. I’m running to help ensure our water and land are managed in a way that is practical, transparent, and sustainable for those who live here now and in the future.

My Priorities for LPSNRD District 1

I am focused on critical issues that directly impact our residents: ensuring reliable water, managing flood risk, and promoting accountability in resource management. My approach emphasizes practical and effective solutions.

Groundwater Sustainability & Water Supply

Managing groundwater and surface water to ensure a reliable, safe, and sustainable water supply for residents and agriculture.

Floodwater & Stormwater Control

Reducing flood risk and managing drainage systems to protect homes, land, roads, and infrastructure from water damage.

Soil Conservation & Erosion Control

Preventing soil loss and land degradation to protect property, maintain productive land, and reduce runoff into waterways.

Recreation & Natural Resource Management

Maintaining lakes, parks, and natural areas for public use while supporting long-term environmental health and habitat.

Understanding the LPSNRD

The Lower Platte South Natural Resources District operates and maintains 200 flood control dams, 13 miles of levees, approximately 12 miles of urban stream channels, 50 miles of trails, 9 wildlife management areas, 11 public wetlands, and monitors ground water quantity and quality.

LPSNRD has a strong history of innovation and leadership. Our success comes from a commitment to cooperation and collaboration with local communities, state and federal agencies, and private partners working together to protect Nebraska’s natural resources.

Why vote for Karis Ahlberg?

This race isn’t about choosing between priorities, it’s about making sure we have strong, practical leadership for the future. Agriculture is a critical part of Subdistrict 1, and the success of our farmers and landowners depends on reliable water, healthy soil, and responsible management of natural resources.

I bring a perspective grounded in personal experience and a practical approach to decision-making. I live in this district, rely on well water, and am also a partial farm owner in Iowa. I understand the importance of water reliability, land stewardship, and long-term planning. I respect the work that’s been done, and I’m focused on building on that foundation with a commitment to making sure decisions today continue to support agriculture, residents, and future growth.

This is an opportunity to combine experience with a forward-looking approach, one that protects what matters today while making sure we’re prepared for what’s ahead.
